Calmac is a private company that provides routes and lifeline services to Island Communities of Scotland at a cost of millions of pounds to the public purse. It has been argued that these lifeline services ran by Calmac could be improved upon and many unprofitable routes could be made profitable at the same time saving millions of public money that could be spent on communities that Calmac currently serves.
